How work is taken on

Five steps, each required by the standards.

Every engagement follows the same order. Most of it happens before any work begins. To be confirmed

PlateAn empty conference room.
  1. Acceptance

Before accepting, the firm checks that it can act: that it is independent of the client where the work requires it, that there is no conflict, and that it has the people to do the work.

    Code of Ethics · Companies Act, 2013 s. 141, 144
  2. Communication with the previous auditor

Where the work is an audit taking over from another firm, the firm writes to the previous auditor before accepting, as the Chartered Accountants Act requires.

Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, First Schedule Part I cl. (8)
  3. Terms in writing

The scope, responsibilities and reporting are agreed in an engagement letter before work starts.

SA 210 · Agreeing the terms of audit engagements
  4. Work and review

The work is planned, done, documented and reviewed by someone senior to the person who did it. The partner signs only after that review.

    SA 220 · SQC 1 / SQM 1
  5. Report

The report states what was done and what was found, in the form the law or the engagement requires, and nothing more.
